What is the 60-second rule?
The minimum time each trade must stay open, how to remove the rule for free, and how it interacts with using an EA.
Every trade opened on the account must stay open for at least 60 seconds before it is closed. The rule is on by default on every account.
Removing it for free
When buying the account you can choose, free of charge, to have this rule removed — provided you do not use an Expert Advisor or any kind of trading robot on that account.
You cannot use an EA and remove the 60-second rule at the same time. Only one of these free options can be enabled: either an EA together with the 60-second rule, or removal of the rule without permission to use an EA.
Removing the rule is not a free hand
Even with the rule removed, abusive patterns remain prohibited. Removing it lifts only the time restriction, not the ban on abuse-driven behaviour.
- Short trades under 60 seconds, if you chose to remove the rule at purchase
- Conventional scalping strategies with risk management
- Rapid-fire manual scalping
- Order or trade stacking
- Tick scalping
- News bracketing — hunting a release with two-sided orders
Where the rule applies
| Product | Phase one | Phase two | Phase three | Funded account |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Master | ✓ | ✓ | — | ✓ |
| Phoenix | ✓ | ✓ | — | ✓ |
| Triple | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
Applies in every phase and on the funded account, unless it was removed at purchase.
Common mistakes
- Assuming the rule can be removed after the account is activated — the choice is only available at purchase.
- Using an EA on an account where the 60-second rule has been removed.
- Assuming that removing the rule frees up every kind of short-term trading model.
Frequently asked questions
Can I remove the rule after buying?
No. Removing the rule can only be chosen before the account is activated, at the point of purchase, and cannot be changed afterwards.
